New York has seen a magnificent and inspiring re-birth since the tragedies of September 11, 2001. As a community, the citizens and leaders of New York have been careful and deliberate in the revitalization and reconstruction that has taken place these past 16 years. Signe Nielsen, Founding Principal at Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects has worked on the forefront of this renaissance not only at the design firm level, but also serving as President of the Public Design Committee for the City of New York. Her personal body of work has focused on environmental integrity and transformation of urban space. From a design and urban planning perspective, Ms. Nielsen will present a compelling case study of the processes and considerations she has personally been involved in the renewal of the City of New York.
