Description

This session will focus on methodology and documentation related to the allocation of expenses on a functional basis. We will also discuss issues impacting the nonprofit sector related to functional expenses based on ratios being employed by watchdog agencies, the media, and the general public. We will discuss:
• Allowable allocation methodologies as well as common mistakes/misreporting of expenses
• Application of expense ratios including fund raising and administration and discussion of the Overhead Myth
• Joint-cost allocations
• GAAP Financial statement versus federal Form 990 reporting differences with respect to functional expenses
