Implementation of the New 3.8% Net Investment Income Tax on Estates and Trusts

Jan 29, 2014 3:00pm ‐ Jan 29, 2014 4:40pm

Description

The tax rate schedule for estates and trusts is extremely compressed. An estate or trust is subject to the 39.6% bracket and the 3.8% net investment income tax (NIIT) once taxable income exceeds $11,950 for 2013. Estates and trusts can minimize the income and NIIT by making distributions to beneficiaries who will most likely be in a lower income tax bracket and may not be subject to the NIIT. During this webcast, the speakers, including the IRS attorneys responsible for the recently released final NIIT regulations, will provide a background of the 3.8% NIIT and its application to estates and trusts, including definitions of key terms, passive versus active income, distribution alternatives, state income tax considerations, and examples of how the NIIT applies to estates and trusts.

This webinar is free for Tax Section members and PFP Section members, inclusive of PFS credential holders, without optional CPE or discounted CPE for purchase for PFP/PFS. This seminar is available for purchase to all. Register now.
