AICPA National Auto Dealership Conference 2012

FTC Security & BSA Software Compliance in Dealerships

Oct 25, 2012 1:00pm ‐ Oct 25, 2012 2:15pm

Description

Dealerships are prime candidates for Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Business Software Alliance (BSA) action. These organizations are identifying and pursuing the risks associated with lax security and software licensing best practices in dealerships. A recent action by the FTC found a that a dealership did not take “reasonable measures” to protect customer data which was accidentally shared online. The BSA, a nonprofit which represents key software industry players such as Microsoft and Apple, has pursed enforcement action against several dealers with settlements approaching $1 million. Join a dealership technology expert for a frank discussion of the risks dealers face with security and licensing. He will explore tell tale signs of security holes and copyright infringement and suggest action to take today to protect the dealership.
