Employee Benefit Plans Must Select Update

Marilee Lau, CPA, Bill Lajoie, CPA and former Peer Review Board (PRB) Member, and Michael Auerbach from the DOL will discuss performing peer reviews of Employee Benefit Plan engagements, including documentation issues, findings and deficiencies. They will also discuss how recent professional standards and regulatory developments impact peer review.

  • Use new bold questions and italicized considerations when completing the 2018 Employee Benefit Plan Audit (EBP) Checklist
  • Determine whether peer review documentation provides the basis for reviewer conclusions prior to the report acceptance process
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory concerns identified by the Department of Labor Employee Benefits Security Administration
  • Analyze Enhanced Oversight Program data regarding material departures identified by peer reviewers and subject matter experts

A&A Update and Its Impact on Peer Review

Ahava Goldman, Associate Director – Audit and Attest Standards, and Alan Long, former Peer Review Board Member and current Auditing Standards Board Member, will discuss updates to standards and their impact on peer review and new standards on the horizon.

Learning Objectives:

  • Revise and expand the auditor’s report.
  • Focus auditor attention on financial statement disclosures as part of the risk assessment process and throughout the audit process.
  • Revise the attestation standards to enable a practitioner to perform an examination, review, or agreed-upon procedures engagement without having to request a written assertion from the responsible party.
  • Revise the auditor’s performance and reporting responsibilities with respect to ERISA audits.

Navigating the Report Acceptance Process
