Peer Review Conference 2018

We will offer a full day of optional sessions on Monday, July 30, 2018. The morning session will focus on Employee Benefit Plans and the afternoon session will focus on Engagements under Government Auditing Standards. On Tuesday, we will kick-off the general session with a professional issues update from Bill Reeb, AICPA Vice Chairman and Sue Coffey, AICPA EVP – Public Practice. Back by popular demand will be the conference cases and concurrent sessions, along with an A&A update and Its Impact on Peer Review. For the second year, we will offer topical breakout sessions.

Marilee Lau, CPA, Bill Lajoie, CPA and former Peer Review Board (PRB) Member, and Michael Auerbach from the DOL will discuss performing peer reviews of Employee Benefit Plan engagements, including documentation issues, findings and deficiencies. They will also discuss how recent professional standards and regulatory developments impact peer review.

  • Use new bold questions and italicized considerations when completing the 2018 Employee Benefit Plan Audit (EBP) Checklist
  • Determine whether peer review documentation provides the basis for reviewer conclusions prior to the report acceptance process
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory concerns identified by the Department of Labor Employee Benefits Security Administration

A&A Update and Its Impact on Peer Review

  • Focus auditor attention on financial statement disclosures as part of the risk assessment process and throughout the audit process.
  • Revise the attestation standards to enable a practitioner to perform an examination, review, or agreed-upon procedures engagement without having to request a written assertion from the responsible party.
  • Revise the auditor’s performance and reporting responsibilities with respect to ERISA audits.
